Chelone glabra 'Black Ace' Turtlehead



Chelone glabra 'Black Ace' has showy spikes of milky-white hooded flowers. The individual blooms resemble a turtle's head, hence the common name Turtlehead. The new leaves of perennial Chelone 'Black Ace' emerge in spring with a very dark black cast and mature to dark green. This perennial blooms in late summer / early autumn.

Chelone glabra is native to the eastern half of North America, where it is typically found on wetlands, in wet open woods and prairies, in marshes and along shorelines of pond or creeks.

Chelone glabra 'Black Ace' prefers light shade and grows best in moist, even boggy soil, but will adapt to drier soils. Drought tolerant once established.
