Stachys moneiri 'Hummelo' forms large, rounded clumps of elongated, bright green, textured leaves that are NOT fuzzy. It produces sturdy spikes of rosy purple blooms from early to midsummer. An uncommon plant, also known as Betony, this perennial is easy to grow. Its foliage is evergreen in warmer zones. Stachys moneiri 'Hummelo' was named the Perennial Plant Association's "2019 Plant of the Year".
Betony clumps will spread over time and it may be used as a ground cover. It is also suitable for containers and its medium height makes it great for almost any sunny border.
Stachys moneiri 'Hummelo' prefers full sun to part shade and moist to average, well-drained soil. It tolerates poor soils. Trim plants back hard after blooming to tidy the clumps and to encourage fresh foliage.
