Spigelia marilandica 'Little Redhead' is a compact and more uniform growing selection of Indian Pink. Its stalks of glossy green, ovate leaves are topped with stunning, dark red, tubular flowers with soft yellow interiors exposed at starry openings. The flowers of 'Little Redhead' are usually borne in early summer and may sporadically repeat. The brilliant red color of this uncommon perennial works great for attracting hummingbirds. It is one of our favorites and very popular with gardeners.
Spigelia marilandica is native to the southeastern United States from Texas to Florida, the mid-Atlantic states and into Indiana and Illinois. It is typically found in moist woods and along stream banks.
Spigelia marilandica 'Little Redhead' prefers partial shade and consistently moist, but well-drained soil. It will thrive in full sun as long as adequate moisture is provided. It can slowly form colonies where it is happy.
