Ruellia brittoniana 'Chi Chi' has soft pink, petunia-like flowers from summer through fall. Its narrow, dark green leaves and purple stems set off the blooms nicely. Ruellia 'Ch iChi' is an upright plant that spreads underground via rhizomes and by seed. It is very tolerant of heat and humidity.
Also called Wild Petunia or Mexican Petunia, Ruellia brittoniana is native to Mexico, the Caribbean and South America, but has naturalized in parts of Florida.
Ruellia brittoniana 'Chi Chi' prefers full sun to light shade and moist soil. It loves lots of moisture, but will grow easily in average soil. Plants can tolerate standing water up to 6". It is sometimes called Water Bluebell. Wonderful at pond edge.
