Phlox divaricata 'Blue Moon' is an outstanding selection of our East Coast native with clusters of dark-blue, fragrant flowers with very full flower petals. 'Blue Moon' is an early spring bloomer, providing a big splash of blue to the woodland garden. Also sometimes called Wild Blue Phlox or Woodland Phlox, it spreads readily via rhizomes and seed. Phlox 'Blue Moon' is one of our favorite perennials for the woodland garden or lightly shaded border. It also makes a charming, fragrant cut flower.
Phlox divaricata is native to the eastern 2/3 of the United States on into northeastern Canada. It is naturally found in rich deciduous woodland, along streambanks, and moist open areas near woodland paths.
Phlox divaricata 'Blue Moon' prefers light open shade or morning sun and moist, organic rich, well-drained soil. Shear after blooming to maintain fullness and to reduce the chance for powdery mildew.
