Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Blue Jean Baby' has bright lavender blue blooms that are held in smokey purple calyxes. This cultivar is shorter than the species and one of the first Perovskia to flower, beginning in midsummer. Perovskia 'Blue Jean Baby' is a bushy, semi-woody perennial that is vigorous and resists flopping.
Although Perovskia is NOT an American native, it is a deer resistant plant that will grow easily in most of the country and will attract pollinators.
Also referred to as Russian Sage, Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Blue Jean Baby' prefers full sun and average to dry, well-drained soil. It is drought tolerant and suitable for coastal planting. Allow the woody stems to remain over the winter and trim back in spring after new leaves start to appear.
