Description

A variety of the US native Switchgrass, Panicum 'Purple Tears' displays a cloud of soft gray panicle blooms in late summer, followed by unique purple seeds heads in fall. The seeds are a real treat for goldfinches and other small birds.

Panicum 'Purple Tears' Switchgrass is drought-tolerant and adaptive to poor and wet soils. It is happiest in moderately fertile soil. It is deer-resistant and a larval host for Skipper Butterflies.

Panicum 'Purple Tears' Switchgrass would be an excellent addition to rain gardens and cottage gardens!

Zones 7&8: Starting Sept. 9th

If you'd like to receive your order on a different week, you can leave a note for us on the Cart page before you reach checkout, or respond to the order confirmation email after you place the order.

We only ship on Mondays and Tuesdays so the plants can travel safely during the weekdays.

We ship via UPS or USPS (the Post Office), and their ship rates are automatically generated through our site. We do not profit on shipping costs. We are working with these providers to get our customers the best rates possible.

All ship times are subject to change if extreme weather conditions are present here at the nursery or at the shipping destination.

Please note: Depending on the time of year, the foliage of the plants may be trimmed to fit into our shipping boxes. This could delay the flowering of the plant, but many perennials actually benefit from being cut back.
