Description

Panicum virgatum 'Cheyenne Sky' has blue-green foliage that turns wine red in early summer. It forms sturdy 2’ tall, tight, vase-shaped clumps that hold up to wind and rain. Its airy, wine-red flower panicles rise to 3’ in August. Panicum 'Cheyenne Sky' is a warm-season perennial grass that usually remains standing through the winter. This is a Proven Winners selection.

Panicum virgatum, also known as switch grass or panic grass, is native to most of N. America, excepting the west coast. It has fine airy blooms and seed heads that attract songbirds and its foliage provides winter cover as well as interest in the garden. It is deer resistant and salt tolerant making it good for roadsides as well as meadows and background plantings. It is excellent for wet sites, erosion control, and a wide variety of harsh growing sites.

Panicum virgatum 'Cheyenne Sky' prefers full sun and average to moist, well-drained soil. It is salt and drought tolerant. Good for borders, dry sun, and roadside plantings.

We ship via UPS & USPS (the Post Office), and their ship rates are automatically generated through our site. We do not profit on shipping costs. We are working with these providers to get our customers the best rates possible.

All ship times are subject to change if extreme weather conditions are present here at the nursery or at the shipping destination.

Please note: Depending on the time of year, the foliage of the plants may be trimmed to fit into our shipping boxes. This could delay the flowering of the plant, but many perennials actually benefit from being cut back.

We are currently not able to ship to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and outside of the US.
