Monarda didyma 'Purple Rooster' produces large, eye-catching blooms of royal purple atop mildew-resistant plants. Also known as Bee Balm, Monarda 'Purple Rooster' forms bushy, nicely branched plants that do not need staking.

Monarda 'Purple Rooster' is a cultivar M. didyma, a perennial, which is native to the central and eastern United States as far south as Georgia and northward into Canada. It is naturally found in bottomlands, thickets, wet meadows, moist open woods and disturbed sites.

Monarda 'Purple Rooster' prefers sun to light shade and moist to wet soil, including clay. It is resistant to heat, humidity, and most pests. Like other Bee Balm, it spreads via rhizomes.

All orders placed now will be held until late August/early September when our fall shipping season begins. We stop shipping plants every summer due to the high temperatures. We appreciate your patience!

If you'd like to receive your order before our fall season, you can leave a note for us on the Cart page before you reach checkout. Please note that we will have to wait for a window of cooler temperatures to ship. We cannot promise any particular shipping date during the summer.

Please note: Depending on the time of year, the foliage of the plants may be trimmed to fit into our shipping boxes. This could delay the flowering of the plant, but many perennials actually benefit from being cut back.
