Monarda fistulosa, or Wild Bergamot, is an upright perennial plant with fragrant foliage and whorls of lavender pink blooms from mid to late summer. Also known as Bee Balm, its blooms are loved by butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Monarda fistulosa is great for naturalizing.
Monarda fistulosa is native most of North America. It is a common component of prairies, savannas and wood margins and is found in all but the wettest soils.
Wild Bergamot prefers full sun to part shade and moist to wet soils. It will tolerate poorer, dryish soils. Provide good air circulation to reduce powdery mildew. It will readily self-sow.
