Hosta 'Fire and Ice' produces heart-shaped, slightly twisted leaves with white centers and broad dark green margins. A small variety of Plantain Lily, 'Fire and Ice' is a sport of long-time favorite Hosta 'Patriot'. Hosta 'Fire and Ice' very slowly forms a small mound of brilliant white and green foliage. It is topped by lavender flowers in July/Aug.
Hosta 'Fire and Ice' prefers partial to full shade and moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Hosta will grow in ordinary garden soil and withstand drought, but they are most beautiful when provided consistent moisture. They will tolerate clay soil and can be grown under black walnut trees.
Plantain Lily are classic perennial shade garden plants that will also grow well in containers.
