Heliopsis scabra 'Bleeding Hearts' is a tall, upright, clumping plant with purple tinted foliage and black stems topped by red-orange, daisy-like blooms. Heliopsis 'Bleeding Hearts' flowers from midsummer to mid fall. The long-lasting blooms, which make good cut flowers, age to bronze.
'Bleeding Hearts' is a strain of Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra, also known as Smooth Ox-Eye Daisy , a perennial that is native to much of the central U.S. and scattered states eastward, plus large portions of Canada.
Heliopsis scabra 'Bleeding Hearts' prefers sun and moderately fertile, well-drained soil. It will tolerate light shade, but flowers best in full sun. Plants are drought tolerant.
