Chrysogonum virginanum 'Pierre' Goldenstar, or Green and Gold, is a rhizomatous perennial that slowly spreads to make a nice ground cover. It has yellow, star-shaped blooms over soft green foliage. A cultivar of C. virginianum, 'Pierre' was selected for its is low-growing form and its long bloom season, often flowering through the summer in cooler regions. It tends to form dense clumps as it spreads, making it a good ground cover.
Chrysogonum virginianum is native to the East Coast and Gulf states. It is native to mesic to dry or rocky woodlands, but is most commonly found at forest edges and clearings with bright filtered light, rather than dense shade.
Chrysogonum virginianum 'Pierre' is easily grown in moderately fertile soil in a woodland setting. It can also take some morning sun. A drought tolerant perennial, 'Pierre' is semi-evergreen and great for dry shade.
