Chelone obliqua 'Tiny Tortuga' is a compact plant that sports dark green, shiny, bronzed leaves and showy spikes of hot pink flowers in mid to late summer. Also called Pink Turtlehead, its 2" hooded, snapdragon-like flowers resemble a turtle's head. A dwarf variety, Chelone 'Tiny Tortuga' makes a good choice for containers and is attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds.
This is a cultivar of perennial Chelone obliqua native to the central and southeastern United States. It is an uncommon species that is found mostly on moist to wet floodplain forests, swamps, wet meadows ant thickets.
Chelone obliqua 'Tiny Tortuga' grows best in sun and moist, even boggy soil, but will adapt to drier soil.
