Description

This tropical-looking beauty may surprise you: it's actually native to southern and eastern North America. Commonly called Swamp Mallow or Rose Mallow, Hibiscus moscheutos blooms 5" soft pink to white flowers from July to September. It doesn't fade even on the hottest summer days.

While Hibiscus moscheutos Swamp Mallow is happy in normal garden conditions, it is great for boggy and wet soil like the swamps and watersides where it originates. It prefers full sun and will not bloom if it gets too much shade.

It is late to emerge in spring (like all Hardy Hibiscus), and can be pruned early in the season to maintain a smaller size.

Hibiscus moscheutos Swamp Mallow perfect for wetland, pollinator, and native gardens!

Care and Growing Tips

We recommend leaving up the old stems for the winter; they will provide a sculptural element to the garden, as well as mark the plant location. The stems are hollow, and so leaving them intact may also prevent winter moisture from traveling down the stems and rotting the crown of the plant.
Cut them back in early spring to within a few inches of the ground. They will be very slow to break dormancy; they emerge later than most everything else in the garden.

We ship via UPS or USPS (the Post Office), and their ship rates are automatically generated through our site. We do not profit on shipping costs. We are working with these providers to get our customers the best rates possible.

All ship times are subject to change if extreme weather conditions are present here at the nursery or at the shipping destination.

Please note: Depending on the time of year, the foliage of the plants may be trimmed to fit into our shipping boxes. This could delay the flowering of the plant, but many perennials actually benefit from being cut back.

We are currently not able to ship to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and outside of the US.
