Eryngium yuccifolium, also known as Rattlesnake Master, has sword-shaped, silver-green leaves up to 24" long that are edged with small spines. In midsummer Eryngium yuccifolium produces tall, stiff flower stems topped by small clusters of unique prickly, greenish-white globes that are surrounded by longer pointed bracts.
Perennial Rattlesnake Master is native from the eastern Great Plains to the Atlantic Coast. Eryngium yuccifolium will self-sow where happy. A wonderful architectural accent plant!
Eryngium yuccifolium prefers full sun and well-drained soil, but is also tolerant of clay soil. Rattlesnake Master is suitable for coastal conditions. For drying, cut stems before flowers are fully open.
