Description

Liatris microcephala, also called Dwarf Blazing Star, has stems of fine, shiny, deep green grassy foliage. A clump-former, it sends up numerous spikes of small, rosy purple, fluffy flowers in late summer.

Dwarf Blazing Star, also sometimes called Appalachian Blazing Star, is native to parts of the southeastern United States, where is can be found in dry sandy prairies, on rocky outcrops, in open woodlands and sunny meadows, as well as on sandy stream banks.

Like other Liatris species the flowers of Liatris microcephala open from the top of stem down. It is a compact, almost dainty plant compared to other Liatris. This uncommon perennial is one of our Favorites!

Liatris microcephala prefers full sun to light shade and moist to average, poor soil. Good drainage is important, particularly in winter! It is tolerant of harsh growing conditions including heat, humidity and drought.

We ship via UPS or USPS (the Post Office), and their ship rates are automatically generated through our site. We do not profit on shipping costs. We are working with these providers to get our customers the best rates possible.

All ship times are subject to change if extreme weather conditions are present here at the nursery or at the shipping destination.

Please note: Depending on the time of year, the foliage of the plants may be trimmed to fit into our shipping boxes. This could delay the flowering of the plant, but many perennials actually benefit from being cut back.

We are currently not able to ship to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and outside of the US.
