Herniaria glabra, or Green Carpet, is an evergreen, carpet-forming perennial with tiny green leaves that turn slightly bronze in winter. It has inconspicuous white star flowers in summer. Also known as Rupturewort, Herniaria glabra is excellent between stepping stones or used as a ground cover. A Rare Roots' favorite lawn substitute for high humidity and drought situations, Green Carpet forms a creeping mat and will also self-sow.
Herniaria glabra prefers sun to light shade and requires well-drained soil. It is drought tolerant once established, but will not tolerate clay soil. Green Carpet will tolerate heavy foot traffic. Space on 6" centers.
