Penstemon barbatus 'Rock Candy Blue' is a compact perennial that bears loose terminal spikes of purplish blue, bell-shaped blooms in early summer. Penstemon 'Rock Candy Blue' will repeat bloom if trimmed back after first flush of flowering. Also known as beardtongue, Penstemon barbatus generally maintains some basal foliage in winter. Like other Penstemon it is visited by hummingbirds and other pollinators.
Penstemon barbatus is native to Texas and the Four Corners Region of the southwestern United States.
Penstemon 'Rock Candy Blue' prefers full sun and medium to dry, well-drained, gritty or sandy soil. It is tolerant of drought, shallow soils and coastal conditions.
