Creeping Lobelia, or Lobelia chinensis, is a rapidly spreading, low-growing perennial plant with small green leaves. The plants, which may spread up to 3' in a season, produce pink lobelia-type flowers all summer and fall. It can make a nice ground cover that tolerates moderate foot traffic. However, it has been found to be invasive in some areas because it spreads by seed as well as by rhizomes. Use care in its placement and monitor for unwanted spreading.
Lobelia chinensis prefers full sun to light shade and is happy in moist or wet soils. To use as a ground cover, space on 8"-12" centers.
