Juncus effusus, also known as Common Rush, has upright to arching, cylindrical, yellowish-green leaves that reach 20" to 40". It is a clump-forming, grassy perennial that spreads by creeping rhizomes and seed. A true rush, common rush is native to North America, Eurasia, Australia and New Zealand. Juncus effusus is usually evergreen in Zone 7 and above.
Juncus effusus prefers full sun to light shade and moist to wet soil. It will tolerate standing water to 4". It is drought tolerant once established. Great for use at water's edge or in rain gardens. It may be grown in buried containers if spreading is a concern.
