Asarum splendens, also called Chinese Ginger, has large, dark green arrowhead shaped leaves that are heavily marked with silver. Asarum splendens is a semi-evergreen perennial whose new foliage emerges in spring. Small, dark purple, jug-like flowers, produced at ground level in early spring, are usually hidden by the foliage. Its thick, waxy, leathery leaves form a lovely mat by spreading via underground rhizomes.
Asarum splendens prefers partial to full shade and average to moist, well-drained soil. Deer and rabbit resistant, it may also deter voles.
