Asarum arifolium has large (up to 5"), evergreen, arrow-shaped leaves that are mottled with silver. Little, burgundy-brown flowers bloom underneath its leaves in mid-spring.
Also referred to as Little Brown Jugs, Asarum arifolium is native to the Southeastern U.S. Although Asarum arifolium is not a fast grower, it will spread to form colonies, making a nice ground cover.
This shade perennial prefers shady woodland sites with sandy, humus-rich, well-drained soil.
