Sedum, commonly referred to as Stonecrop, is a large, diverse genus of flowering plants that vary in color, shape and growth habit. Most prefer full sun to part sun and well-drained soil. Sedum is drought-tolerant and an excellent choice for rock gardens, borders and containers. Taller varieties of Stonecrop make great cut flowers, while low growing varieties are great groundcover plants. Sedum is tolerant of coastal conditions and the shortest varieties are usually deer resistant. Most sedum are hardy in at least zone 4-9.
