Phlox subulata, or Creeping Phlox, is a perennial groundcover that produces blankets of vibrant color in the spring. Phlox prefers full sun to part shade and will tolerate drought and coastal conditions. Phlox subulata is a great erosion control solution for sloped areas. It prefers moist to dry, well-drained soil. This U.S. native is attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Creeping Phlox’ low growing, needle-like foliage makes it unappealing to deer. Hardy to zones 3-8.
