Amsonia tabernaemontana 'Grande' is a selection of Blue Star that has robust growth and much larger than usual light blue flowers. Amsonia 'Grande' blooms in late spring-early summer. Like the other Amsonia, its foliage turns a lovely golden yellow in fall. It is deer, rabbit, insect and slug resistant. Good for pollinators.
This is a cultivar of Amsonia tabernaemontana, a native from the East Coast to Texas. It is typically found in rich, open woods, along stream banks and in moist meadows and prairies.
Amsonia tabernaemontana 'Grande' prefers full sun to light shade and moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates moist sandy soil to heavy clay. Amsonia 'Grande' may be pruned back after blooming to reduce its overall height.
